The Wrong Funeral

Everyone in town knew that seventy-two-year-old
Mr. Sharma was incredibly forgetful.
One day, he received a message:
"Funeral at 11 a.m. Community Hall. Please come."

Dressed in black, he headed there,
only to accidentally go to the wrong community hall.
Inside, a funeral service was already underway
for a man named Harish Mehta,
someone Mr. Sharma had never met.

Not realizing his mistake, he sat quietly through the ceremony.
Then the speaker asked if anyone would like to share a memory.
Before thinking, Mr. Sharma stood up.
The problem was that he knew absolutely nothing about Harish.

Thinking quickly, he said, "Harish must have been a wonderful man.
Judging by how many people are here, he clearly touched many lives."
The family smiled, and his simple speech unexpectedly comforted everyone.

After the service, a new problem arose.
Several relatives began arguing over Harish's antique pocket watch.
The disagreement grew louder until someone turned to Mr. Sharma.
"You seem wise. What do you think?"
Caught off guard, he asked, "What did Harish value most?"
"Family," everyone replied.
Mr. Sharma nodded.
"Then perhaps the question isn't who gets the watch.
It's how to honor the man who owned it."
His words changed the mood instantly.
Soon the family agreed to keep the watch as a shared family heirloom.
The argument was over.

Later, Harish's daughter thanked him.
That's when Mr. Sharma finally confessed.
"I should tell you something."
The family gathered around.
"I never knew your father."
"What?"
"I came to the wrong funeral."

For a moment, everyone stared.
Then laughter erupted throughout the room.
They laughed so hard they could barely stand.
Even Mr. Sharma joined in.

Just then, his phone rang.
It was his friend.
"Where are you? The funeral ended an hour ago!"
Mr. Sharma had missed the correct funeral entirely.

Months later, Harish's family invited him to dinner.
Then another dinner.
And another.
The stranger who arrived by mistake
slowly became part of their family.

One evening, Harish's daughter asked,
"Do you regret getting lost that day?"
Mr. Sharma smiled.
"Not at all."
Because sometimes life's biggest mistakes
lead to its most unexpected blessings.
